Brief Trips to Sanity

As any of my friends can testify...my life has been one long series of unbelievable but yet hysterical events. Some not so funny at the time...but given time and perspective, they have proved to be the material of great stories that will be told for generations. Maybe my scribbles here will give you some incite into my twisted, but yet entertaining head.

The Blue Devils Get Spanked!

Va Tech 45 - Duke 0

After a not so stellar performance in Raleigh last weekend (although thankfully still a W for the Hokies), Va Tech was ready to start polishing their game this weekend against Duke. Not surprisingly, Wallace Wade Stadium radiated brightly with the beautiful color combo of orange and maroon…Tech’s 12th man was there in force. The Hokies’ defense made the point of reminding Duke that it’s time for the ACC to learn to play football. I’ll admit this shutout wasn’t the most exciting game I’ve ever watched. Normally, I’m sitting two inches from the screen screaming and jumping up and down in nervousness (yes…I realize that I might need to relax!). This one was a little different…for once I watched Tech football laid back on the couch drinking my jug of sweet tea and balancing the checkbook while glancing up to catch the big plays when I finally heard any excitement in the announcer’s voice. If you take a look at the numbers from this game you would have thought we were playing the local high school. Sorry, Blue Devils…the Hokies UPSET you last year on the basketball court and we were back to remind you that we rule the turf!

Let’s take a moment to look at some of my favorite quotes and stats from this game:

Espn says: “ It was over when…Marcus Vick threw the first of his three TD passes in the first quarter. The way the Hokies defense was playing, that was all the scoring Va Tech would need.”

Espn also quotes: “Gameball goes to…The Va Tech defense. The Hokies held Duke to just 35 total yards on 53 plays and notched 10 tackles-for-loss and held Duke to just 13 yards rushing on 36 attempts. Is that any good?”

Jimmy Robertson of the Va Tech newspaper notes:
-Tech held Duke to just 35 yds of total offense – the fewest yards allowed by the Hokies in a game in the “modern era” (post-1950)
-This was Duke’s lowest yardage total in at least nine years.
-This makes the 11th straight season that the Hokies have shutout an opponent.

Agassi...isn't he awesome! He gives me hope that when I'm old I can still deliver some a$$ whoopings! :)
