Brief Trips to Sanity

As any of my friends can testify...my life has been one long series of unbelievable but yet hysterical events. Some not so funny at the time...but given time and perspective, they have proved to be the material of great stories that will be told for generations. Maybe my scribbles here will give you some incite into my twisted, but yet entertaining head.

That's Dr. Kelly to You!

So yes, I survived Friday!!! Everything went surprisingly smootly. I was so nervous Friday morning I thought I was gonna be sick...but when the time came it all just fell into place. One of committee members actually offered me a job as I was coming into the room for my defense...so I figured that was a vote of confidence. :) Thanks for all the support and prayers...last minute phone calls to cheer me on...and beautiful flowers! The only moment I started to panic was when my committee said: "Let's discuss statistics."...uh oh...but managed to make up some good stuff and we moved on. So this morning, I'm off to fill out paperwork and make a few revisions to my thesis. ...and well, time to really focus on getting a job.

Less than 24 hours to go...and my official 100th Blog!

Well, what a nice post for my 100th blog...

I am officially in complete panic...tomorrow at 2pm I will finally defend this thesis and if all goes well...move on with my life and finally not be a student (the first time since the age of 4).

Please say a prayer for me...I HATE public speaking and I'm just looking to survive my seminar.

Tomorrow night I'll have a huge weight off of my shoulders...

Here's to more relaxing times!

MOTO-GO GRIP!!!...The Sequel to the "Hey Horn!"

IGNORANCE IS BLISS!!...

Math proves it...

Hey kidz...well...let me give a little explanation. I have had several conversations lately with people on my opinion that it is better to be stupid. In this life, ignorance wins the prize...yeah, you might be stupid...but on the other end, you're too stupid to care...and in turn, too stupid to care about anything else either....therefore, you live in a happier place! The older I get the dumber I get...so that is the reason for my increasing happiness in life!

Just kiddin'...well kind of. :)

That brings me to one of my favorite quotes:

BEAUTY IS FLEETING, BUT STUPID IS FOREVER!

Saturday....

time to make use of my "special graduated cylinder"...

5 Days and Counting....

Hey crazy kidz!!! It's Monday morning and the panic is starting to set in. I still have a seminar that I need to put the finishing touches on and start practicing, and I have quite a bit of studying to do. But I'm confident that by Friday at 2pm I'll be ready to "play ball"! I talked to Bass this morning...so hopefully we now have it cleared up where exactly he's supposed to show up on Friday. Even though I'm not ready, part of me just wants to go ahead and do this tomorrow so that I can just have it behind me. My mom and brother are coming in on Thursday night...so that will be really nice having them here. I know so many others of you will be with me in spirit and for that I am thankful. So today I must get motivated with a small break for volleyball.

Amy...I haven't gone postal on anyone yet...but there are still a few days left. :)

I haven't forgotten you...

Hey Everyone! I have lots to tell...but little time for the moment so unfortunately I'll probably save a few stories for later. Cory and I did make a good trip back to my parents' house last weekend for a special occasion...I'll talk about later. I submitted my manuscript to "Cell Death and Differentiation" yesterday...so finally got that GONE!!! Now start praying that it will actually get accepted. I am currently working on my thesis seminar and tomorrow some serious studying will begin. Exactly one week till I'll be in my defense! Wow...can't believe it's almost here! Thanks for all you cheerleaders who keep pushing me on towards the end. The light at the end of tunnel is nice and bright now. Next...finding a job...mainly so I can justify going to buy that new Mustang. YAY!!!!!

IN CASE YOU COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT....

I don't often directly respond to comments made about the blog on the blog...but for this one I will make an exception....

So in case you havent' seen it...on Januray 2nd...I got this comment from "Bond Joby":
"just one Question Are you a girl????"

What? Are you serious?

Ok...here are a few facts to ponder "Bond Joby"...
1. My website is HOT PINK....hmmmmm
2. Occasionally, I post pictures of guys that I "would like a piece of"....hmmmm (by guys I meant men...just in case you weren't sure)

....ok, now maybe you're still wondering if I'm a girl or a homosexual man....

but then there is...
3. Occasionally, I also post pictures of myself...I'm the TALL, HOT BLONDE!!!

So, yes Mr. Bond Joby...I'M A GIRL!!!!!! Why do you ask????

Goodbye Thesis!!!

Well, I survived the writing of my thesis!

(And Amy...I didn't even make any inappropriate remarks to Borders' employees this time! How did that go: "YOU'RE AN IDIOT AND THAT'S WHY YOU POUR COFFEE FOR A LIVING!"....Not one of my finer moments. )

At about 3:30 on Friday afternoon, I made the rounds and passed out the ginormous document and then stuck one in a FedEx envelope to send to my dear advisor...who may or may not actually read the thing. Ginger has very accurately described the graduation process as a triathlon. I feel like I have completed the running portion of the event...now begins the swimming. Luckily this all timed out well...I turned in my thesis...now my 2 volleyball leagues start back up over the next two weeks and I have to start back at getting this paper submitted, finding a post-doc, preparing my defense presentation, and studying for all those stupid questions they're gonna ask me.

TODAY'S THESIS FORECAST:

Considering my thesis is due by 5pm today, the forecast today is surprisingly good:

"Mostly calm with periods of scattered F***!!"

Research Seminar Topic of the Week:

The neurobiology department is hosting a quest speaker who will be discussing:

"Taking the stink out of instinct"

Maybe I should make time for this one...gotta love the sense of humor of scientists!...or maybe you don't! :)

IF I CAN ONLY SURVIVE TILL FRIDAY...I'M GOLDEN!!

First of all...Ginger, isn't this guy on your list of "fake husbands"? :)

Alright...let's see...it's about 3:30 AM on Wednesday morning and I've wrapped up yet another version of my discussion section of my thesis and I've e-mailed it off to the guy who has taken over as "my boss" to get me through this adventure. I have 6 copies of the first 40 pages of my thesis all ready to go, sitting on my desk at work, and now all I need to do is conquer the last 80. I can't even remember the last time I spent a whole day without working on this thing. Poor Cory has been so patient...an hour with him on the couch and then I retreat to the bedroom to the warm glow of my laptop while he entertains himself and becomes Avery and Chase's personal jungle gym. I have requested a simple date of dinner and a movie on Friday night after I turn this thing in and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!! It's the simple stuff you take for granted sometimes. Next week I'll introduce the new stresses...but for this week just pray that I'll get this thing done in time and that the hospital stays stocked in toner!

And to help my spirits...VA TECH pulled off the win on Monday, despite an ugly first half! GO HOKIES!!! And Tina...how 'bout them Nittany Lions?!!!!!! That game was incredible!!! (Poor kickers! :) )

What is the saying?...I have to laugh or else I'd cry!

Why do I feel I should be the one wearing this sign?! It appears that my boss and mentor is acutally losing his cognitive function due to health issues...which is horrible, but seriously did this have to happen as I'm trying to finish my thesis. Here a toast to 2006...the year in which I will finally get a new boss!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
