Brief Trips to Sanity

As any of my friends can testify...my life has been one long series of unbelievable but yet hysterical events. Some not so funny at the time...but given time and perspective, they have proved to be the material of great stories that will be told for generations. Maybe my scribbles here will give you some incite into my twisted, but yet entertaining head.

Allyson Is SETTLING Down!!! :)

NO...she's not getting married...she's leaving her crazy nomad ways (we are told) and moving out of downtown Chicago to the beautiful mountains in Colorado. In case you don't read the comments:

hokiehubble to me

ok - it is official. i'm moving to COLORADO!! get your bags packed, kel! you're coming to visit me in the mountains! i should be there by april 24th! YIPPEEE!!! the mountains and an actual parking space...how could i ask for more?? :)

Allyson has lived in just about every city possible over the last few years (including a city in Africa..yeah, that's right...Africa) and lived the life of a consultant, spending more time in an airplane than in her house. Apparently, it's time for her to go frolic in the mountains with her fellow nature lovers and well...more importantly her fellow Whole Foods shoppers. :) Ok Allyson...time to stop dating all of those poor city boys that can't handle you and get yourself a REAL man who will climb the sides of big rocks with you.

I can't wait to come visit! Allyson...I'll even drink soy milk with you to celebrate! :)

I had a big day myself today...but we'll save that story for tomorrow.

Wisdom Nugget from This Weekend:

Have you ever noticed that the girl in the group that announces "I never get drunk!" is always the first one drunk off her butt and screaming obsenities at the cop and fat girls in the booth next to you at the Carolina Diner at 4am while you're trying to eat your biscuits and gravy?! :)

An Update on Life:

Hey Everyone! I have not forgotten the blog...just been a little absent. The beautiful spring weather has happily pulled me outside away from this computer...although today is not quite as warm and cozy as I would like it to be. I have been looking for a special post for my Amy...but have not been able to find it yet..."Nasty", I promise I'll keep looking.

Things are good. I have a phone interview with a guy in the Micro dept at UNC in the morning. It's been so long since I've interviewed it will interesting to see how that goes. Besides for job hunting things are just same ole, same ole.

Cory and I sadly watched Duke win on Sunday while drinking beers at the Tap Room, which was nice. Always makes me smile and remember the good ole days of "Club Tap Room" back when Keller was still around and we always spent our weekends dancing like idiots... whether it was in the corner of the Tap Room or in the cages at the Sky Bar (yep, it was as scary as it sounds). (Snap...you remembering good stories of Hoj smearing lip stick all over my pants while drinking Long Islands by the pitcher?! :) ) Then I drug him on a 10 mile walk around West End and downtown Winston (it's weird seeing Burke St. during the day)...we left the Tap Room at 3 and he was moaning pretty good by time we got back to the car at 5:30...hehe. Although, he has now decided he liked the exercise and is gonna let me drag him off on an even longer stroll in the near future.

Our v-ball team did great Monday. We had had a really rough week the Monday before and I think everyone left with their confidence a little bruised...but every single one of my teammates showed up with their A game last week and I think we all agreed that it may have just been the most fun we've had out there yet. We had one volley that must have lasted for 4 minutes or more...I was beat...especially since this smart girl decided to go do my weight training circuit right before v-ball that night. My Thursday night team continues to be interesting from week to week. The week before last all of our "star players" made an appearance and we got killed...last week there was just 5 of us...2 guys, 3 girls. And one of the guys is not one of our best players. The 5 of us managed to go 3 and 1 against two of the best teams in the league. The lesson I am taking from this is that cocky attitudes can go a long way in destroying a team effort...sometimes it's much, much better to have 5 humble people who are willing to work their butts off.

Let's see what else: Well, this weekend should be a blast. Headed with a bunch of the girls to Mrytle Beach to have a bachorlette weekend for our friend Tamara. We're gonna hit the St. Patty's Day parade on Saturday and let the fun (and trouble) go from there. Hopefully once we get Allyson moved to Denver I'll be headed out there as well. I'm excited about seeing Colorado since I've never been before, but even more excited about seeing Allyson since I haven't seen her since our New Orleans trip in January 2005.

Well, I'm off to Barnes & Nobles to do some reading and drink coffee until I head to Kickboxing at 5:30...I'm gonna be in some serious pain in the morning! Love and Miss you All!!! Send hellos when you get the chance or suggestions of what you'd like to see on this page. Javid has tipped me off to something he likes...so I'll probably put up something "stupid" for our entertainment in the near future.

The Reason Ginger SHOULD Buy A WebCam!

Ok...this is mainly on here just because these guys crack me up. I could SO see Ginger and me pulling off our own version of a song or two on the "soundtracks of our lives" (BTW..I have a few more suggestions Ginger.) These are the two Chinese college students who like to perform their favorite pop tunes for the camera. Give it a watch...this is very cute!! And then here they are in their native language! :)

My First Job Leads!

Today is a bit overcast outside...and that is good because it makes it easier for me to sit inside on my computer and looks for postdocs. I will head to the gym afterwhile to get my blood moving and to work on rounding out my flat butt (we all have our issue right?!). Well, I've sent my resume to all kinds of obscure locations...but I got my first two responses today and they both are in Chapel Hill. One is with the EPA doing lung biology...how perfect would that be...can we say QUALIFIED!!! :) And the best part is that the government knows how to treat scientists...yay for bigger paychecks and benefits! The EPA lab is actually on the UNC campus...so that would be nice. Then the second lead is with a lab at UNC in the Joint Dept of Biomedical Engineering (joint with NC State actually). How funny would that be if I ended back up in an engineering dept after what... 9 years! So we shall see...this is just the beginning of the adventure...and YES Amy I'm working on one at Vanderbilt.

Another Great Cowboy Mouth Concert!

Overall this weekend was a good one! Saturday was a busy day, but turned out to be a success. The day started with Tamara's bridal shower...there's nothing like old women and sleezy thongs to provide hours of entertainment. The highlight was when the grandmother of the bride got ahold of the orgasm noise maker keychain (which was a gift from the mother of the bride by the way)! Good times! :) Then rushed off to meet Cory for a little alone time before we both ran off for separate evenings with friends. Then it was off to meet Nicolle, Kevin, and crew to get ready for the Cowboy Mouth concert. I met most of this crowd playing flag football and I must say they are still as entertaining as when I first met them. And to make things fun...I drank for the first time in quite some time...so I was ready to "dance" when we got to Ziggy's! Managed to get a couple of "proposals" during the evening, which is always quite entertaining...it's always nice to know you "still have it", hehe. The concert was great! There is nothing like some Cowboy Mouth to help loosen you up...just one of those nights when you're just happy to be alive. It was especially touching considering the band is from New Orleans and a few of the songs off of their new CD are tributes to their hometown. We even brought along our own New Orleans native, Nicolle's boyfriend Kevin. Thanks guys for a great time!

I want a Penguin!

Ok...so this is my advertisement for the March of the Penguins. I loved this movie...well, it was more of a National Geographic special...but that made it all the cooler. The fact that a couple of French men lived in a shelter in Antartica for 9 months in sub-zero temperatures and braved the elements to get the footage is just incredible. I took two things away from this movie: 1) if you think you're having a hard day...you should think "it could be worse, I could be a penguin and 2) Kelly wants a baby penguin as a pet! :) Isn't this just the cutest ever!! ...and this is why Amy always tells me that if I ever have a baby she is gonna come to the hospital and wrap it in fur so that I will get attached to it. Hehe!!

This Is Why I LOVE My Friends...aka "Why I Keep Nicolle Around"! :)

Today has been a big one for me...my first trip back to the gym post-flu and tonight I sent out four copies of my resume begging for a job (not that I really want one...but I have to have money to buy all of those cute accessories that accent my hotness! HA!) We are all getting ready for the Cowboy Mouth concert in Winston on Saturday night and I figured no better way to celebrate than to demonstrate the lengths my friends will go to to have a good time. My dear Nicolle decided to do it up right when the band Absolute 80's came to town...just see for yourself...(she's the one in pink)! Isn't that great. And then there is Susan...I just know Susan from playing football...which means at this point I mostly think she is scary. :) So Nicolle, you better tell that boyfriend of yours that I MUST have his picture to make this complete...so get to scanning!

So all in all, Saturday should be a good night...except for the fact that Cory is leaving me for the boys that night so that he can watch Carolina basketball...but as they say "how can you miss me if I never go away"...right?! :)
