Brief Trips to Sanity

As any of my friends can testify...my life has been one long series of unbelievable but yet hysterical events. Some not so funny at the time...but given time and perspective, they have proved to be the material of great stories that will be told for generations. Maybe my scribbles here will give you some incite into my twisted, but yet entertaining head.

The FruitCake Lady!!...Move over Dr. Phil!!

Well hello bloggers! I'm finally starting to feel like myself again and even managed to play volleyball tonight without falling over dead. Thanks to Nikki, I was reminded tonight of this golden gem: The FruitCake Lady. She is on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno from time to time and she is freakin' hilarious. (Probably because I can see myself being a little like this at 80 :) ) Give it a watch...I'll try to put some new clips on here from time to time...here's some REAL advice. Hope you're all off to a good week and remember that in my world success is measured by the amount of time I spend laughing!!

Allyson IS NOT Old!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Last week was my friend Allyson's 29th birthday. Happy Birthday Crazie Girl!!!!! Apparently, many of her friends have been calling and writing to send their sympathies in her officially reaching "old"...as a public service and to display my disgust with these comments...Allyson is still not old!!! Not till next year that is! Let's get to planning that big 3-0! And the good news is she'll always be older than me! :)

God's Way of Making Me Take A Time Out

Well, these last couple of weeks I have kept thinking that I've really got to take a day or two and slow things down. My real mistake was praying for some down time...well, I got it...the flu that is. So needless, to say this weekend has been a quiet one. Considering that I was going from 0 to B**** in 10 seconds on Friday, I knew something was not right and then Saturday morning it struck with a force. So now I am waiting to see what Cory is bringing me for dinner tonight. :) I think this evening will include watching the Carolina basketball game and then me making him watch The March of the Penguins. And yes, there will be a post about that movie! (Ginger: yes, I now want to be a penguin photographer when I grow up and yes, I want a baby penguin!) Ginger brought me this movie to watch knowing my weakness for cute little animals. So over and out for the weekend. I hope your weekends went a little more smootly than mine and in a few days I hope to be back at causing trouble all over again!

A Little Inspiration for Today: The World is Your Oyster!!

Hey guys!! There has been a lot going on and many things I need to blog about, including my obsession with the Olympics...so please pardon my absence for the last couple of weeks. You would think that not having a full time job these days would mean I would be bored and have plenty of time on my hands, but that is just not the case at all. My Monday night volleyball team is doing extremely well and is making me very proud and we just added one new player to the Thursday night team I play for. This new player has provided some much needed leadership and we have taken a losing team and in one week have started laying down some serious wins...thanks Jeff! In all of this I saw something (actually caught his name on a commercial) and I had to find out more. As you probably know, I am a novice skier (translation: I spend more time trying to get up than I do skiing). Then I saw this guy and I thought: "I have NO excuse". Monte Meier is on the US Ski Team for the 2006 Paralympics. Monte lost one of his legs in an accident at 8 years old, but despite his handicap took up skiing shortly after finishing high school. Now he is one of the best downhill skiers in the world!! Whenever life gets you down, take a look at people like this...the people who should be slapping our faces for all of our ridiculous whining. Take yourself...and all of your baggage, crap, and shortcomings...and get out there and conquer those dreams!!! God expects us to challenge ourselves and push ourselves further than we think we can go. This year make a point of doing something you have always wanted to do...even if it seems a little crazy or beyond your reach...you won't regret it!

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year: THE OLYMPICS!!!!

I LOVE THE OLYMPICS!!!!! We are merely 3 and a half hours away from watching the opening ceremonies and I am psyched! As my mother said, thank goodness I defended my thesis before the olympics or else I would have failed. If the past is any indication I will stay up half the night watching obscure sports and my days will be spent working in front of the TV and my nights working out on the treadmill in front of the TV. Somehow watching all of these athletes brings back all of those childhood hopes and dreams of being able to do some wonderful "when I grew up". For a couple of weeks I can imagine what it would be like to be a "professional" skier or ice skater or hockey player...and if nothing else be inspired to kick this body of mine back into shape.

GO USA!

YAY 4 SNOW!!!!!!!!!

What does Kelly love?...forces of nature...one of which is SNOW!!! This morning I awakened to a beautiful layer of snow covering everything! Somehow that made today all the better! Although, the black ice and mulitude of accidents meant an hour commute for Cory this morning. I waited till the ice thawed and made off to the gym. I am loving this not working thing...I just need to find a sponsor!! :)
