Brief Trips to Sanity

As any of my friends can testify...my life has been one long series of unbelievable but yet hysterical events. Some not so funny at the time...but given time and perspective, they have proved to be the material of great stories that will be told for generations. Maybe my scribbles here will give you some incite into my twisted, but yet entertaining head.

A Little Redneck Fun:

Hey guys! I hope everyone had a great weekend and that Monday didn't hurt too bad. Luckily, my overly controlling, jealous officemate was out "tired" today...so I enjoyed the calm of quiet and a day without having to put someone in their place. :) If I hear the phrase: "well, I guess that's why you have a Ph.D.!" one more time, someone is gonna be missing some teeth!! Other than that, work is starting to go well. I'm starting to take over (since my boss is so overextended)...and that is fun, but a bit nerve racking all at once...especially since I'm just starting to figure out exactly what I'm doing. The other nice thing is that the work week is only 4 and 1/2 days long. Fridays at noon, our floor clears out and moves to Franklin St. to fill up on the chosen beer special of the week. Then at about 3 we wonder back to the lab to work off the beer before our commutes home...nice huh?!

This past weekend Cory and I headed to Martinsville to take in the Nascar Busch race. It was great to be in Virginia...I swear the air smells better there! :) ...Not to mention the feeling of home with all of those VT fans decked out in their Hokie garb for the day. We had a good time. I think I'm a much bigger fan of the Martinsville Speedway than I am of the Lowe's Speedway in Charlotte. It tried to start raining about half way through the race, but luckily held off until we got back to Greensboro for dinner at which point the rain came in sideways for a couple of hours. Kevin Harvick led most of the race and ended up bringing home the win...but Cory was most excited about Darryl Waltrip's final return to the track for the week...although the disappointment hid hard when Waltrip got taken out with only a few laps to go and was running around 16th at the time. For me, these events are always the best for people watching. I have to admit I haven't been visually undressed that many times in one day in quite some time...but when you're one of only a handful of girls without a mullet and a full set of teeth, you rise to the top of the ranks pretty quickly. :)

A Simple Hello

I have lots of things to talk about tonight...but no energy left to actually put up a real blog post. So here is just a simple hello to let everyone know that I still miss them and that things are fine, but crazy busy on this end.

We got to hang out with Mike and Lara in Chapel Hill on Saturday night...which was good times had by all...especially once Mike had had just one too many beers at the Top of the Hill on Franklin St. Peaches, Nasty, and Jezzy...if your ears were burning, it was only because we were talking some serious smack about you! :) (Debbie...Mike is still mad that you didn't give him the Clap!)...if you're wondering what this means...just let it go!! :)

The ball at work is finally rolling...but unfortunately, I now am unable to slow it down. I'm hoping the quick pace means good things to come. Things will be busy for awhile...Cory and I head to Martinsville next weekend so that Cory can get his Nascar fix (I love him in spite of it :) ) and then the following weekend I head to Wilmington to celebrate the last few days of singleness of my friend Natalie. I hope everyone is well and each one of you is on my mind!!

World Cup Fever!

Sunday July 9th is a big day on the world sports scene. I have recently become a huge soccer addict...thanks in part to my nephew's love for the sports (and apparently steadily increasing skill) and the reviving of my previous love for the sport when I was younger. My brother played in high school and although I think he was given the most praise for his work on the basketball court, I think he always really loved soccer the most. While on vacation last week we spent a few morning watching the world cup matches before hitting the beach. Now that Tim has explained the rules to me...I'm all good (kinda like the day I finally learned about the rules of football...I've been in love every since). Plus, in high school the soccer players were always the "studs"...they always had the hot bods, the killer legs and great asses! One German guy ripped his jersey off yesterday in a fit of joy and although he was a bit on the pasty side, his finely sculpted pecs helped me overlook his lack of UV exposure. :)

Germany claimed 3rd place Saturday by defeating Portugal 3-1. Today is the final game. At 1:30pm Sunday, Italy and France will face off to determine the FIFA World Cup champion. Emotionals will be high and I'm sure a great game is only a few hours away. Everyone I've wanted to win thus far has lost...which means that France will probably win. Good luck Italy! (I have a few Italian co-workers who will also be more pleasant on Monday if the "appropriate team wins! :) ) As you can see from the picture...people get into this stuff!

Winston-Salem Traffic Rap

That's right traffic and rap...a perfect combination...well, maybe! Give this a watch...especially those of you that have spent a year or two with me in Winston. It's always good to know that someone is doing there part to keep the city on the map.
